According to Ukraine's Air Force and General Staff, Russia launched 364 strike drones and ten Banderol drone-missiles in roughly 25 hours from 18:00 on 1 November to 19:00 on 2 November. Jet-powered types accounted for 75 of the 193 drones at night and 103 of the 171 by day, so that jets made up 60% of the daytime wave. The mix reverses the previous night's piston-engine emphasis and concentrates jets in daylight.

The breakdown: 193 by night, 171 by day

In its morning statement on 2 November the Air Force said that from 18:00 on 1 November Russia launched Shahed-type drones (75 of them jet-powered), Gerbera and 'Parodiya' decoys from Orel, Kursk, Bryansk, occupied Donetsk and Hvardiiske in Crimea. Aviation, surface-to-air units, electronic warfare, unmanned-systems units and mobile fire groups shot down or suppressed 154 (58 jets); hits were recorded at 26 locations and debris at nine. Ukrenergo imposed emergency power cuts and the Kyiv metro halted some sections because of voltage swings.

On the evening of 2 November the General Staff said that between 06:30 and 19:00 Russia launched 171 strike drones (103 jet-powered), Gerbera-type decoys and ten S8000 Banderol drone-missiles, of which 139 drones (78 jets) and eight Banderols were neutralised, with about 20 still airborne at the time of the statement. A daytime wave in which jets form the majority, and ten Banderols in a single wave, are both the largest figures published so far. All intercept counts are Ukrainian statements without independent verification.

The strike on the Samara oil hub and the retaliatory cycle

The same night, Ukrainian long-range drones attacked Transneft's Samara Linear Production and Dispatch Station near Prosvet. According to Militarnyi and Meduza, the Astra channel verified readers' photographs and NASA's FIRMS recorded a thermal anomaly at the station at 04:13. The regional governor said 'an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on our territory is being repelled' without naming the site, and no confirmation from Ukraine's General Staff was available as of the evening of 2 November. The station receives four pipelines and blends export-grade crude.

Russia's defence ministry is reported to have claimed 212 Ukrainian drones shot down overnight, but the ministry's original post could not be confirmed for this edition and the figure comes via a pro-Russian aggregator. The rising share of jet-powered Shaheds is a choice that denies interceptor drones the visual acquisition and pursuit conditions they rely on against piston types, and it lies behind the grants for air-to-air missiles and domestic radars that Ukraine's defence ministry launched on 31 October.
