A representative of Ukraine's Defence Intelligence (HUR) told Militarnyi on 30 October that a new module designated "MOKH" has been detected in Russian Geran-series strike drones since late summer. Intended to improve autonomous navigation without satellite signals, it ties two additional sensors, one in each wing, to the central module to form a three-point inertial measurement system, so that a jammed drone can still reach its assigned area with reduced accuracy. Together with HUR's 5 October report on the upgraded Geran-4, it confirms Russia's step-by-step reduction of dependence on satellite navigation.

A three-point inertial system and where MOKH fits

The HUR representative described the reworked inertial system as creating "a triangle, a measurable inertial environment". HUR's 5 October report had already described the MOKH unit as built around a US-made PNI Sensor PNI5GA magnetometer working with a SADRA inertial module to limit gyro drift, used alongside the "Susanin" electro-optical scene-matching navigation system, and sanctions commissioner Vladyslav Vlasiuk said on 28 October that magnetometers are now appearing in Geran tail fins. No AI or machine-vision role, accuracy figures or number of affected drones were given, and the claim rests on a single anonymous source.

Western components still dominant, markings routinely removed

On components, US-made parts retain the largest share in missiles and some attack drones, with Texas Instruments and Altera named, alongside STMicroelectronics and Chinese parts; in the Garpiya and Filin drones Chinese components already predominate. HUR asserts that Russian plants remove the markings from foreign chips on the assembly line "at scale" and that China, where the major distributors of Western manufacturers operate, is the main procurement channel.

What it means for jamming-centred air defence

Electronic warfare that diverts drones is a pillar of Ukraine's low-cost air defence, and navigation combining magnetometers with scene matching partly neutralises it against area targets. The Defence Ministry's 30 October grants for interceptor drones and air-to-air missiles can be read as a response to this shift, while on the export-control side the distribution channels for off-the-shelf magnetometers and sensors come into focus.
