The UK Ministry of Defence announced on 27 October that it will lead the development and delivery of three payloads for uncrewed underwater vehicles under AUKUS Pillar II's first 'signature project': a synthetic aperture sonar, a deployable anti-submarine warfare sensor and a deployable non-kinetic effector, to be available across the three nations' UUV fleets from 2027. At Maritime Big Play–Pacific off San Diego (5–25 October) the UK led the anti-submarine strand with 13 uncrewed surface vessels, two ASW targets and four underwater gliders, and four UK and US firms shared £3m in the Maritime Innovation Challenge on undersea command and control. Contract values and suppliers have yet to be announced.
