On 27 October Reuters reported, citing six people familiar with the matter, that researchers at TrendAI, a unit of Trend Micro, concluded that Israeli ad-tech firm Discover-Tech was among the largest sources of ads shown to Starlink users and likely used them to geolocate or surveil those users. The firm was the top bidder on Starlink traffic in more than 100 countries, including several where Starlink is banned or restricted, and is said to be the actor TrendAI's 15 October report described as 'Shadow-Earth-79'. Citizen Lab and Confiant named the company the same day, and Google and Comcast removed it from their ad platforms. SpaceX and Discover-Tech did not comment.
